Lisbon: the City of Seven Hills

The 16th International Conference on Scientific Computing in Electrical Engineering (SCEE 2026) will be held in Lisbon (Portugal), organised by Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores: Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) from the University of Lisbon. The conference location is the Anfiteatro Abreu Faro in the IST’s Alameda campus, named after a notable personality in the second half of the 20th century and professor at IST, having contributed decisively to the creation of modern bases for science in Portugal.

Técnico is the largest school of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology in Portugal, involving a community of over 10,000 people. Research and Innovation Research at Técnico is organised in 23 R&D units (INESC-ID being one of them), with over 50 working groups, that pursue challenging research programmes.

Located in one of Lisbon’s most central areas, Alameda campus is surrounded by a wide range of public transportation network, allowing easy access to all points of the city. There are a wide range of cultural, leisure and sports activities around the campus.

Lisbon is Portugal's hilly, coastal capital city. Home to more than 7 universities for engineering, Lisbon is vibrantly young but also old. Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world and the second-oldest European capital city (after Athens), predating other modern European capitals by centuries. It is close to the Westernmost Point of Continental Europe. It hosts one of the largest indoor aquariums in Europe and is famous for fado music, pastéis de nata pastry, and azulejos colourful tiles.

No matter where you arrive from, you will have to climb some stairs to get to the Amfitheatre!
